Dwarves and the stupidity of people.

I play Dragon Age: Origins a lot, and when I'm not playing i'm usually lurking around in the Bioware forums. Usually I can ignore everything that is said in there if its insulting due to trolls, but this could not be ignored. Too many people argued this and it was, quite frankly, annoying and insulting.

A little bit of background first...

In Dragon Age: Origins you have the option to 'romance' some members of your party. Its pretty self-explanatory from there. You can romance either three humans or an elf.

It completely ignores two 'races' so to speak. The Qunari and the Dwarves. The Qunari are avoided due to they being such a separated country from Ferelden, where the game takes place. But Dwarves are found within Ferelden and they have a large part in the game. There are several dwarves found in the storyline, both male a female.

So why is there no option to romance a dwarf is what I am wondering.

I think I got a little insight today about it.

In DA:O you can choose any of six origins, human noble, human mage, dwarf noble, dwarf commoner, dalish elf, and city elf. I love the dwarf origins, they are the best in my opinion. Hell I love the dwarves in general in this game (I actually ENJOY A Paragon of Her Kind quest). Just putting that there for any accusation of bias or something.

Anyway, the insight I got was the reason WHY so many people didn't really like dwarves. Because, and I quote someone here, "they look like children".

WHAT.

Apparently, being shorter than the rest of the characters make the dwarves look like children. And, also, they can't wrap their minds how, in game or real life, a relationship like that would work. WHAT WHAT WHAT.

(I'm purposely not linking to the debate. )

What do dwarves in DA: O look like?

OH THE HUMANITY LOOK AT THE HOT MESS. THEY LOOK LIKE MY 10 YR OLD BROTHER :OOOOOOO!

Oh wait, they don't look like children at all?

My brother said it best, "Nini your dwarf just looks like a shortish adult."

Maybe its a cultural thing?

And that's true, which is why this whole "DWARVES ARE UNROMANCEABLE BECAUSE THEY ARE SHORT AND CHILDREN LIKE" gives me a headache.

In game, dwarves seem to be, give or take, 5', maybe taller. Maybe 5'2". Not something like 4'5" as some people make it think. These people are basically saying, "No relationship with a tall person and a short person will ever work out romantically/sexually".

Yes, I facepalmed many times.

There is the argument that its a game and I shouldn't take it so seriously but its the under lying context that is really offensive.

I'm not short, but I am also not very tall. I'm 5'4". My mom is 5'1" and my sister is 5'2". I often run into females in the 4'11" range and lower. They are not children. I've seen men who are my height, I've seen them at the height of 5'0". They are not children. Many of them have excellent relationships with people a foot taller than them, and they have no issues.

I guess this is just a severe issue of stupidity. And, for the idiots who say short people can't be sexy, I refute that with this: Salma Hayek. 5'2". Much sexier than you (the 'you' being directed at the forum idiots). Hell, Nicole Richie is only 5'1".

Back to my original point: Why aren't dwarves available to romance? The closest to an answer would be that even the developers felt that such a height difference in 'lovers', so to speak, was too odd.

I just think these people are haters. They wish they were shorter so they'd be less noticeable when they cut in line for food! HA!

I really should plan these blog posts out. I am such a poor writer I shouldn't write stuff willy-nilly >.>;.
